May 10, 2008Bed BlegI don't think I've done this in five years of blogging, but I am seeking opinion on beds -- I mean "sleep systems" -- and need to ask for help. I am looking to purchase a new bed for the new home and it seems that my wife and I are pretty good candidates for a Gucci-bed: a Tempur-Pedic, sleep number, or something like that. I am leaning toward the Tempur-Pedic, specifically a Boulder knockoff Sensur-pedic. I cannot do extensive shopping, and am going to have to roll the bones and buy something online or make a quick visit to ascertain that something works, Driving around and trying a bunch of things won't work for me. Anybody have a recommendation or string feelings on a particular brand or style. |
jk,
We very much like our Tempur-pedic. We bought it last fall. It took about 2 weeks to break it in (the material softens a bit), but once it is broken in, it is great.
Posted by: pqusit at May 10, 2008 9:27 PMI've never slept on a Tempur-pedic but my parents swear by theirs. I've laid on it and the support seems good but it's more difficult to roll over on than on a standard bed.
Our preference is a flotation bed (in the old days we called it a waterbed) but for the first many months in the new/old farmhouse, while interior refinishing was still underway, we slept on a basic air bed rasied on a system of folding legs (think of the tinkertoy style camp chairs). It was comfortable enough except when the air pressure leaked down below a certain point and it needed refilling.
Another benefit to air beds over other types is lighter weight when it becomes necessary to move it. Besides - Limbaugh pitches the Sleep Number brand. What more endorsement could you want?! :)
Posted by: johngalt at May 11, 2008 12:16 PMThanks muchly for the tips. I got a third, positive tempur-pedic® recommendation by email.
As it happens, I went to the Boulder showroom and ended up selecting this Latex one. It seemed to have the comfort of the foam without quite so much sinking in. What they all have in common is that they are all way too much %$#@! money to spend on a bed. What a country.
